Vaquero Azul
Tacoma Queer Illustrator, Sewist, and Cultural Artist
Vaquero Azul is a P’urepecha and Borikén-Taíno, Two-Spirit illustrator and sewist based in Tacoma, Washington, serving Pierce County and beyond. His work celebrates Trans Mexican euphoria and Mesoamerican joy through vibrant, culturally rooted art that blends tradition, identity, and storytelling.
By weaving Charro and Folklórico influences with queer fantasy aesthetics, Vaquero Azul creates visually striking illustrations and textile pieces that capture moments of identity, liberation, and sacred expression. His work highlights the beauty and resilience of Trans, Two-Spirit, and Indigenous communities through bold color, symbolism, and narrative.
In addition to visual art and textile work, Vaquero Azul engages the community through year-round ofrendas honoring Trancestors, as well as culturally grounded workshops and presentations. These offerings create spaces for emotional vulnerability, healing, and empowerment within LGBTQ2IA+ communities.
Rooted in culture, connection, and community care, Vaquero Azul’s work envisions a world where Trans, Two-Spirit, and Dos Espíritus people are celebrated, loved, and proud of who they are.
For those seeking original artwork, cultural storytelling, or community-centered creative experiences in Tacoma or Pierce County, Vaquero Azul offers meaningful, visually powerful work grounded in identity and tradition.
